Off Campus Physical Education (OCPE)

Austin ISD Off Campus Physical Education (OCPE) WAIVER Program offers PE Credit during the spring semester for playing Ultimate

AISD Ultimate players in grades 7 – 12 may register for OCPE if they wish to substitute after school Ultimate for their PE Credit during the spring semester.

The course is open to all boys and girls in 7-12 grades who gain individual approval; and meets three times a week for the spring semester each year.


Our Program

Ultimate Students, Physical Education Teachers, and Teacher candidates from University of Texas have come together to develop a curriculum of Ultimate Frisbee that meets the State (Texas Education Agency) requirements for secondary physical education.

In 2008, our curriculum was developed with the support of the Ultimate Players Association through an Innovation Grant, earned by a team captain at LASA.

  • Texas, Ultimate! will serve AISD as the approved agency, offering instruction in the sport of Ultimate and Spirit of the Game.
  • Through regular participation, players will become more fit by demonstrating 90% attendance during the Spring Semester (only) in cooperation with the University of Texas.
  • Students may take the course 3 spring semesters throughout their High School Career, earning a total of 1 1/2 credits.
  • To meet the deadline for the Spring semester, potential students can apply for OCPE with their school counselor prior to the completion of the Fall Semester.
  • Applications will be received in the counselors office after November 17th.
  • FINAL deadline foe COMPLETED waivers, submitted to the AISD OCPE office, is MIDNIGHT on the first day of the spring semester.
  • All Students are expected to attend a three weekly meetings. or host a work-out three times a week on your campus.
  • We will meet at the Zilker Elementary School on Wednesday Afternoons from 4:15 pm – 6:00 pm;
  • We will meet at Barton Hills Elementary School on Thursday afternoons from 4:15 pm to 6:00 pm;
  • We will meet Friday Afternoons at Fulmore Middle School at 3:45.
  • SUNDAY afternoon is a required meeting for students from all campuses.  We will meet from 2:00-4:00pm on and AISD Field (Travis High or Austin High).

We fill our coaching, teaching and sponsor positions with volunteers. We maintain this Agreement with the school district to provide instruction on AISD campuses.

All Coaches must:

  • be at least 18 years of age,
  • pass an AISD (FBI fingerprinted) background check.
  • or, be a certified AISD employee
  • hold a current CPR certification,
  • attend a three-hour training session.


Coaches credentials must be filed with the AISD no later than the last day of classes during the fall semester.

THIS SEMESTER’S TRAINING SESSION WILL BE HELD on Columbus DAY, a school holiday. Please, complete the Volunteer Application Form

Please, let us know if you will attend training from 9:30 -2:30pm on Columbus Day. The training session will be held at Austin High.

WEEKLY PICK-UP GAME:

All Ultimate neighbors aged 9 – 16 are invited to a weekly Community Scrimmage on Friday afternoons from 3:45 – 5:15 pm at Fulmore Middle School.

Boys and Girls in 5th grade through 10th grade are invited to join the pick-up games beginning January 23, 2015

  • We play ULTIMATE on the field inside the track at the corner of S. Congress Ave and Mary Streets.
  • Please bring a refillable water bottle, and wear a good pair of shoes to run on grass.
  • Written permission is required of players who do not attend Fulmore Middle School.

Middle School Programs

As skills and spirit are mastered, Middle School players should plan to play more than once a week to develop physical fitness though Ultimate. Choose days to play after school.   

Middle School State Tournament

Those interested should participate in weekly work-outs and are invited to participate in the Lone Star State Ultimate Tournament.  Boys and girls can play on the same roster, for a day of competition.  More information about how to become a club is on our Tournament Page.

Middle School Work-outs begin the week following the  Columbus Day holiday and end in Mid December.

  • The Ultimate team will meet next semester at Small Middle School, under the direction of their new coach on campus.  Clint  Small players are invited to join us at other MS workouts during the week.
  • We will play on the Barton Hills playground from 4:15 – 5:45 for Middle School aged players.   Presently Kealing,  O’Henry,   and Clint Small players, are joining the Barton Hills Sixth Graders for an advanced workout on THURSDAY afternoons.
  • The Lively Club will meet on TUESDAY afternoons from 3:45 to 5:15  at Stacy Park, which is a short walk down the hill from the Lively Campus.    Parents can pick up players at the park, or we will walk kids back up the hill to meet the late bus.

Elementary Ultimate

 

  • Ultimate is a non-contact, highly aerobic, self-regulated team sport, played with a flying disc.
  • All boys and girls aged 8-11 are invited to join the Ultimate Fun.
  • Participants will learn the rules and physical skills of Ultimate.
  • Players will  develop social skill by practicing the responsibility of self-regulation.
  • Students will receive a nutrition lesson and a healthy snack each week.
  • Ultimate is highly cardiovascular and will initiate development of personal physical fitness.

 Allison  ELEMENTARY

This program is supported by the After School Centers for Education (ACE) Grant.   Players should register on their campus with ACE Coordinator Candace Williams.

Boys and Girls in 3rd grade through 5th grade are invited to join the Allison Ultimate Club, which meets at Allison Elementary School on Wednesday and Friday  afternoons, beginning on September 11, 2019

Middle School Mentors are welcome to work-out with the Allison Dragons, and will be invited to participate in the annual tournament Day.

 

Barton Hills Elementary

Boys and Girls in 3rd grade through 6th grade are invited to join the Barton Hills Ultimate Club,  which meets at Barton Hills Elementary School  from 3:00 – 4:30 pm on Thursday afternoons, beginning on October 17, 2019.    The work-out will continue for experienced players who want to keep running (and middle school players who get off the bus at BH at 4:15) and dismiss at 5:45, or dark, whichever is first.

We invite middle school aged players (6th – 8th graders) to join us at this work-out, following the Elementary School Club meeting.   Players from Small, Kealing, Fulmore and O’Henry Middle Schools have expressed interest to join us for the Fall season at this location.

TRAVIS HEIGHTS ELEMENTARY

Boys and Girls in 3rd grade through 5th grade are invited to join the Travis Heights Ultimate Club, which will meet on TUESDAY Afternoons from 3:00 pm- 4:30 pm at Big Stacy Park, beginning October 15, 2019.

The work-out will continue for experienced players who want to keep running, finally dismissing at 5:15.

Players from Fulmore Middle School are invited to register for the work-out from 3:45- 5:15 at the Stacy Park, a short walk, down the hill, from Fulmore.   Those players are invited to also play with our THURSDAY MS group on the Barton Hills Playground.
